Living Through History: Observations from Barbault's Basket (both for myself and the collective)

There are some astrological configurations that announce themselves in big, bold movements. Others unfold so gradually that you don't realize you're living inside them until you stop, look around, and begin connecting the dots.

This summer has felt like the latter.

Since the planets gathered into what astrologers call Barbault's Basket. This is a rare concentration of planetary energy occupying one half of the zodiac while the other half remains comparatively empty. I have found myself paying closer attention. Not because astrology dictates events, but because it offers a symbolic language through which we can observe patterns. Looking back over the past weeks, both the collective and my personal life seem to echo the themes of compression, intensity, transition, and polarization that this configuration often evokes.

For the Collective:

Spain wins FIFA World Cup. Tr*mp is booed and they are shouting Free Palestine in the stands. Lamine Yamal raises the Palestinian flag during celebrations.

Jimothy the disabled raccoon gains virality.

Andrew Tate and brother are arrested for rape and sex trafficking.

Taylor Frankie Paul in an epic crash out that needs to be studied. A major astrological case study on what NOT to do during Mercury Retrograde.

Landslides, earthquakes, flooding, wildfires of epic proportions. Trump tariffs Canada for their wildfires.

Great Britain announces a new Prime Minister

Trump vows revenge on Iran. The war continues on and rages.

Many crashes and drownings. SK Roughrider player Dalke crashed into another car, weed and alcohol found in his car. Multiple young boys crashed and drowned this weekend. There were bear/animal attacks. Couple from SK killed by a black bear and a K9 animal advocate was killed by feral dogs in Sandy Hook First Nations.

The discourse on Witchtok about Alex Reads Tarot and return and rise of evangelical christianity during Neptune in Aries.

Sam Neil died.

The Odyssey makes film history.

Personal:

Y’alternative style. Embracing my country side.

Noah Cyrus concert in the USA. It was a girls trip. A fun good time but I overdid it. It is not necessary to go so hard in my big age.

Lack of sleep, vivid/lucid dreams, way heightened anxiety almost on the verge of panic attack. I am feeling better today but I think collectively I can speak for a lot of us when I say we were anxious this weekend!!

Backrooms and Underworld and Crescent City are the vibe. Noah Cyrus, Noah Kahan, Olivia Rodrigo and Oliver Tree.

Unwanted guests show up at our door step. Need to up the wards.

Caught in an epic thunderstorm without umbrella or shelter with Salem picking up the boys from summer day camp.

There have been complicated conversations, shifting friendships, changing family dynamics, and moments that reminded me to be cautious about where I place my trust and emotional energy.

Threads has become an unexpected creative home, with post after post finding virality, readers and sparking conversations. My writing feels alive again. New fiction has emerged, including a horror story inspired by the unsettling emptiness of abandoned fairgrounds after closing time. Multiple creative projects continue to call for my attention, and planning for the Wicked Bazaar is finally beginning to gain momentum. Ticket sales have started to pick up, and little by little, my website community is growing.

The biggest sensation of being watched. Not necessarily in a literal sense, but in that strange psychological way that anxiety can make the world feel hyper aware of your existence.

I feel saddd a lot. Trying to stay grounded and at peace with my family. I am. Life is good. Sooo good there is so much to be grateful for. I am very fortunate. The blessings are real. But life is hard and heavy. So I do feel sad too. Despite all the good. I often am questioning if I have made the right choices but I have no choice but to keep going. But moving forward every day with more creative energy than the last.

One unexpected pattern I've noticed is my fascination with liminal spaces. It seems to be a recurring theme throughout my life. Perhaps that's what this season has felt like. Not quite the old world, not quite the new one, but somewhere suspended between the two. Liminal spaces have always represented transition. They ask us to sit in uncertainty without rushing toward resolution.

Maybe that is the real lesson of this season. Not that life becomes easier. But that even in the middle of uncertainty, we continue creating. And that creation is the solution for our shadow.

It is a good time to take note of the moves in your life. What is serving your greater purpose? What feels heavy and is weighing you down? Where can you put creative energy into? What does creativity look like for you?
